The Birches

Here we provide highly supportive care for adults with learning disabilities and mental health needs, encouraging them to live their lives to the fullest.

The Birches is a supported living service for adults with learning disabilities and mental health needs, set in the beautiful village of Bushey. Conveniently situated between North London and Watford, Bushey has a lovely old-fashioned village feel without being isolated. We are within walking distance of several high streets and have great transport links both towards Harrow and Watford by bus, and even into Central London by train from Bushey Station.

The Birches is set within a diverse and friendly local community. We find that the surrounding countryside and ammenities greatly improve the supported living we can provide to those with learning disabilities and mental health neeeds, particularly the large park, miles of fields and even a stable across the road. We are also near to several places of worship and have a number of great pubs and restaurants in the village.

Personal space and care within a community

The Birches is a four bedroom supported accommodation in a quiet cul-de-sac. Each service user has their own personal space alongside the shared kitchen and lounge. On the first floor there is a large shared bathroom, and one of the bedrooms has an en-suite. The house also has a large outside space and conservatory, and assured short hold tenancies are offered to protect rights and to give safety of accommodation to our service users.

At The Birches we aim to provide a person-centred approach to supported living for adults with learning disabilities and mental health needs. Our key aims are to help with day-to-day life and to maintain our service user’s freedom to live in the community as safely as possible, overall moving towards a more independent lifestyle.

Our style of support is one that is designed to provide stability and freedom of choice. We have a diverse care team who are responsible for the residential care we provide to our service users with learning disabilities and mental health needs. This team also help with planning regular activities and providing one-to-one support in the community. We strive to help with the setting and achieving of long and short-team goals, which we do through person centred care plans for each service user. These plans are created with input both from the individual concerned and our well trained and caring staff team.
